B&W Portraits

This series offers a quick glimpse into my work, which spans three continents and four years — a collection of portraits and documentary images rooted in moments of human depth. There’s Stella, a Brazilian transgender sex worker in Italy who remembered me — and my name — after two years apart. Her portrait is part of an ongoing project on prostitution in Italy. There’s also Lucia, whose shaved head I first saw in a fellow photographer’s portrait. I only learned on the day of our session that it was due to chemotherapy — and our encounter became an unexpectedly meaningful experience. Other images were born from spontaneous encounters: a portrait of Steve McCurry, shot in a studio in Venice after a bold request; a mother and son inside a Buddhist temple in remote Upper Mustang; a wedding kiss beneath the Brooklyn Bridge that unfolded in front of my camera. I work both in studio and on location, always seeking a common visual and emotional language with my subjects — something that transcends context, place, or circumstance.
