This photographic series, Mother and Me, explores the subtle yet complex emotional bond between a mother and daughter by juxtaposing pairs of similar personal objects belonging to each of them. As a junior high school student, I chose to shoot entirely in a studio setting, using carefully controlled lighting to highlight the texture, shape, and color of each object. Each image becomes a quiet conversation between generations. Every photograph presents a pair of objects—perhaps a lipstick and a tinted lip balm, two similar hair accessories, notebooks, or pieces of jewelry. These seemingly ordinary belongings serve as bridges connecting two female identities across time. They reveal not only shared aesthetics and habits but also generational differences and the process of growing apart and becoming. Without any human figures in the frame, the work uses the composition, lighting contrast, and visual rhythm of objects to express feelings of tenderness, dependency, distance, and mutual understanding within the mother-daughter relationship. Each arrangement becomes a visual inquiry into the question: “Who am I?” and “How do I become myself in the shadow of my mother?” Mother and Me is a quiet yet powerful reflection on identity, emotional inheritance, and family memory—a daughter’s visual tribute to her mother, conveyed through the language of photography.
