What appears pastoral at first glance also carries its own layers of complexity. This series follows a herd of goats the photographer encountered while traveling through rural China this summer. It begins with a lone goat chewing on a lotus plant, then moves to the moment the animals are released from their enclosure. Every day, it’s a joyful sight to witness when the animals are grazing freely among the grasses and wild plants in the soft glow of the golden hour.
