Shezidao, Taipei’s only mixed urban-rural area, is hailed as “Taipei's last rural scenery.” Fifty years ago, construction was banned due to flooding, but development is now imminent for land use. Nevertheless, Shezidao has a century tradition called “Night Procession of Gods of the Earth” which will continue to preserve memories for this land. Young men from Shezidao are called “Shezidao warriors.” They carry palanquins and stop by places where owners prepare firecrackers. While the firecrackers are bombing, they hold palanquins right above fire, making sure blessings spread out successfully.
