Conjure

A figure stands within a cobalt field, face raised toward a veiled light. From the crown of the head, a slender branch ascends—not held, but grown into the body. The act of summoning has completed itself: what was once reached for has taken form. I exposed only for the sky, allowing the figure to fall into silhouette so that individual identity gives way to archetype. There was no fill light, no reflector. Fused with the body, the branch becomes antler, crown, and sign—the mark of one who has received an answer. Photography is itself an act of conjuring: it fixes into permanence what was never meant to remain. Here, the invocation occurs twice. What was summoned inscribes its mark upon the body, while the lens inscribes that body into stilled time. What the branch does to the figure, the shutter does to the moment.
