COSMIC OCEAN

COSMIC OCEAN is an ongoing photographic exploration of the sea as a place where matter, life, myth, and the cosmos appear to merge. For more than a decade, I have photographed waves and sea foam along the coast of the Sea of Japan. Using fast shutter speeds and telephoto compression, I isolate fractions of a second in which water loses its familiar identity. Foam becomes stellar dust. Waves resemble organs, creatures, gods, geological formations, or fragments of an unknown universe. The photographs are not staged or digitally generated. Their forms originate in actual encounters between water, wind, light, gravity, and time. My role is to recognize the instant when the visible world begins to transform into something ambiguous. COSMIC OCEAN follows a cycle of emergence and dissolution: matter gathers, life seems to awaken, consciousness appears, myth is born, and finally everything returns to particles. Through these images, I am not attempting to document the sea as landscape. I am searching for a threshold where the sea can no longer be named simply as “sea” — a place where the natural world becomes a mirror for creation, existence, destruction, and return.
