Photographer's Profile
RomaTre University, Rome, Italy, Italy
Cecilia Ceccarelli is completing her degree in Architectural Sciences at Roma Tre University in Rome. Her work lies at the intersection of architecture, urban environments and human health, with a particular interest in how the design and transformation of cities influence environmental conditions, resilience and the dynamics of communicable diseases. Alongside her architectural studies, she is the author and co-author of scientific publications in international journals, addressing subjects ranging from earthquake-resilient cities and infection-resilient architectural design to the relationships between urban form, environmental change and emerging communicable diseases. This interdisciplinary research informs the way she observes and photographs the built environment. Photography is not simply a means of documenting architecture, but another way of investigating it. Her images explore how buildings are perceived and transformed through geometry, perspective, light and shadow, and through their relationship with people, landscape and time. She is particularly interested in moments when architecture moves beyond its immediately recognisable function and becomes an arrangement of lines, surfaces, voids and light. Working primarily in Italy, a country where ancient structures, modern interventions and contemporary architecture continually overlap, she uses photography to examine both the formal autonomy of buildings and the ways in which they remain embedded in human life.
