Photographer's Profile
Brazil
Marcos Silva is a Brazilian photographer based in São Paulo whose work focuses primarily on social and urban issues. Through photography, he explores everyday life, human relationships, cultural diversity, identity, and the social realities found within contemporary urban spaces. One of his notable photographic essays is “Às Margens do Tietê” (On the Banks of the Tietê), a documentary project portraying people, possibly experiencing homelessness, using the waters of an inlet of the Tietê River in São Paulo for personal hygiene and washing their clothes. The essay reflects on social vulnerability, dignity, survival, and the often-invisible realities that coexist within one of Brazil’s largest cities. Marcos actively participates in photographic salons, festivals, exhibitions, and competitions in Brazil and internationally. In recognition of his photographic achievements, he has received important distinctions, including EFIAP (Excellence FIAP) from the Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (FIAP), PPSA (Proficiency PSA) from the Photographic Society of America (PSA), and EAFB from the Brazilian Confederation of Photography (CONFOTO). His involvement in the international photographic community also extends to serving as a jury member in several international photography salons. Marcos is a member of Fotoclube ABCclick, based in São Caetano do Sul, São Paulo, where he actively participates in activities and initiatives promoting photographic culture. In 2026, he became the club’s Director of Photography, contributing to the development and visibility of its photographic production. His photographic practice is driven by an interest in observing people and the city, seeking images that go beyond the immediate moment to reveal traces of memory, identity, belonging, social inequality, and transformation.
