Barbara Beeman Photography, United States
In December 2022 I won first prize in Architecture from New Jersey Monthly magazine. My image was called “Water’s Soul” and I captured a different view of the famous sculpture that decorates the New Jersey waterfront in the Newport area of Jersey City. Earlier in the year I won first prize in architecture for my image “Caterpillar experiencing changes” at the New Jersey Visual Arts Center. I worked for forty years as a Supervisor of Social Work who helped the homeless, victims of domestic violence and the elderly. I am also a musician/singer who performs regularly at local cafes with my life partner William Bannon. After servicing as a Supervisor of Social Work for 40 years at Hudson County Social Services in Jersey City, I retired and decide to pursue my original love for photography. I taught myself digital photography and learned Photoshop. I had my first solo show in NYC at the Cupping Room Café. My first New Jersey show was called Nature’s Mirror at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. Nature’s Mirror represented a foray into the challenges of seeing in a world in climate change reflected in puddles. I have had portfolios published in The Eye of Photography online magazine which included my series on Old Glass, Stolen Time, etc. In December 2022 I won first prize in Architecture for “Water’s Soul” for New Jersey magazine, Recently I won awards for my photo “Caterpillar Experiencing Changes” and “Station” in my Old Glass series.
