L'Arbre Blanc rises above the Lez river in Montpellier as one of contemporary France's most recognized residential buildings. Designed by Nicolas Laisné and Manal Rachdi, its asymmetric balconies spiral outward like branches, each angled to capture light and frame a different slice of city and sky. Shot at dusk, two cyclists crossing the bridge below anchor the scale. The building needs no dramatic framing. Against a deepening blue sky, it simply holds its ground.
