A Trance of Chlorophyll explores the encounter with a Monstera not as decorative foliage, but as a living counterpart whose presence gradually alters perception. At close range, the familiar plant becomes an immersive environment of veins, membranes, openings and overlapping surfaces. Macro photography reveals the physical specificity of the leaves, while their characteristic perforations act as botanical apertures: one layer opens onto another, producing shifting relations between foreground and background. Bokeh dissolves parts of this layered space into luminous colour, while selective focus repeatedly returns attention to the material structure of the plant. The five-part sequence is organised according to a strict bilateral symmetry of both colour and form. The outer works correspond through warm tones and pronounced motion blur, transforming leaves into flowing traces and introducing a sense of bodily movement. Moving inward, the second and fourth images become calmer and more concentrated: monochrome macro views emphasise layered leaves, apertures and vascular structures. At the exact centre stands a tonal inversion. Light and dark are reversed, pushing the Monstera towards an uncanny, almost radiographic presence. Yet this most radically transformed image is also rendered in the series’ most distinctly plant-like green. The paradox is deliberate: the photograph furthest removed from natural appearance becomes the strongest chromatic invocation of chlorophyll. The sequence therefore moves from kinetic dissolution through concentrated observation towards inversion, before unfolding symmetrically outward again. Bokeh, motion blur, macro detail and tonal reversal are not independent effects, but stages in an altered experience of looking. A Trance of Chlorophyll proposes the plant as an autonomous presence capable of reorganising the visual field. The closer the viewer comes, the less the Monstera behaves as an object to be observed and the more it becomes an environment to enter.
