Deserts of Change is a travel photography series that documents the relentless evolution of Doha, Qatar. The collection explores how a quiet pearl-diving settlement in the desert has rapidly transformed into a sprawling, hyper-modern metropolis. The series is built around a striking visual contrast. On one side, the photographs capture the gleaming futuristic architecture of the city skyline. Towering glass skyscrapers, bold geometric museums, and sprawling artificial islands dominate the frame. These structures stand as monuments to extreme wealth and ambition, rising abruptly from the arid landscape. On the other side, the series grounds this explosive growth in the daily life of the city's residents. Images shot within the labyrinthine alleys of Souq Waqif reveal an entirely different pace. Here, traditional Qatari culture endures amidst the rapid modernization. The photos show locals working in the streets, vendors selling spices, and the timeless textures of mud-rendered buildings. By placing these two worlds side by side, Deserts of Change highlights the dizzying speed of Doha's development. It asks viewers to consider what is gained and what is preserved when a city is built from the desert sand into the sky almost overnight. The result is a vivid portrait of a society balancing deep historical roots with an unyielding drive toward the future.
