A Moment in Paris

Photographed on the streets of Paris, this image captures a quiet, unguarded moment amid the constant movement of the city. An older man pauses to light a cigarette, surrounded by hundreds of padlocks attached to the railing behind him. The locks, often left as symbols of love and permanence, create a striking contrast with the fleeting nature of the moment in front of them. I was drawn to the man’s expression, his weathered hands, and the way he seemed completely absorbed in this simple ritual. Converting the image to black and white helped remove distraction and emphasize texture, gesture, and emotion. For me, the photograph is less about Paris as a destination and more about the small, deeply human moments that give a city its character.
