Lost in the Sea

Sai Kung in April is one of Hong Kong’s diving heartlands: clear enough, warm enough, and still before the heavier summer swell. From the air the water looks calm. Underneath, it is not empty. This drone frame finds a diver already inside the sea’s own architecture. Seaweed rises around the body in dense, vertical curtains — not a backdrop, but a room. The diver is looking for a way out and cannot find one. Orientation has slipped. The surface is somewhere above; the exit is somewhere through the green. For a moment the person is not touring nature. They are lost inside it. The photograph is about that inversion. A popular dive destination becomes a place of genuine disorientation. The same water that draws people in April also erases the path back. Seaweed does not decorate the scene; it occupies it. The diver’s body, small against the living mass, is both present and already absorbed . This is a figure looking for an exit that the sea has quietly withdrawn.
