Hong Kong Shopfronts' is a visual exploration of the city's vibrant, unfiltered street-level commerce. In Hong Kong, the barrier between business and the pavement is beautifully porous. Traditional shopfronts are commonly flung wide open, spilling their wares, ambient light, and daily rhythms straight out into the public sphere. There are rarely glass windows to hide behind, which openly exposes the inner workings of the business for the entire street to see. For a visual artist, this architectural openness presents a remarkable creative opportunity. The street itself acts as a natural viewing gallery, while the open metal shutters, structural pillars, and hanging canvas canopies create perfect, ready-made frames for the bustling scenes inside.
